Release Date: 3/5/2007. Expired: 3/31/2007
The Young Entertainers on Stage (YES) series at The Renaissance Center returns for its second production selected specifically for actors ages 6-18.
The YES series will present Disney’s Aladdin Jr. at The Renaissance Center in Dickson April 28 and 29.
Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail. All of your favorite characters are here in this stage adaptation of the Disney hit, including Aladdin, Jasmine, and, of course, the Genie.
Filled with magic, mayhem and flying carpet rides, audiences’ spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the tuneful, Academy Award-winning score with songs including A Whole New World and Friend Like Me will certainly make this musical a favorite for many years to come.
Open auditions for Disney’s Aladdin Jr. will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in the Performance Hall at The Renaissance Center. Children auditioning will need to stay the entire time, all three hours. Your child needs to prepare 16 measures of a song with the sheet music in the correct key. They also will be allowed to use a CD or tape player, if they so choose.
Anyone interested in working behind the scenes for the production also is asked to attend the auditions to sign up.
Rehearsals for Disney’s Aladdin Jr., directed by Amy Scott, managing director of the Renaissance Players, will be 4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday beginning April 2.
Performances will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 13.
The Young Entertainers on Stage series debuted in 2006 with a production of Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids. The YES series presents children ages 6-18 with the opportunity to audition for roles in a production specifically chosen for young actors. The students will work with the professional directors, actors, costumers and technicians at The Renaissance Center to present shows in the Performance Hall.
“The Young Entertainers on Stage series is a fantastic opportunity for students of all ages to get involved in the fun of a live theatre production,” said Scott, director of YES. “It doesn’t matter if you’ve never been on stage or have performed several times, all you have to have is the dream to be a part of the theatre family and, who knows, we might inspire a child to make a career of the theatre.”
