Complete History of America (abridged) performance to benefit Romine scholarship fund

Release Date: 8/24/2006. Expired: 9/30/2006

The Renaissance Players present a special, one-night-only performance of The Complete History of America (abridged) as a fund-raiser for its Mel Romine Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The “fun-raiser” begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, with a reception in the rotunda of The Renaissance Center followed at 7:30 p.m. by the production in the Performance Hall. The reception includes heavy hors de oeuvres and dessert will be served at intermission. Tickets are $17 and include the reception and play.

The Complete History of America (abridged) presents 600 years of history in 6,000 seconds. From Washington to Watergate, from the Bering Straits to Baghdad, from New World to New World Order, writers Adam Long, Reed Martin and Adam Tichenor have created a 90-minute roller coaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American history.

Clarksville actors Alex Syler, Josh Raby and Nathan Spurgeon presented sections of The Complete History of America (abridged) during the 2005 Renaissance Players Gala and Syler and Spurgeon return Sept. 30 and are joined by Ryan Hunt of the Renaissance Repertory Company to present the entire show to help raise money for the scholarship awarded annually to a high school senior who has participated in a Renaissance Players production.

The show tackles such controversial questions as: Who really discovered America? Why did Abe Lincoln free the slaves? How many Democrats does it take to screw in a light bulb?

The Complete History of America (abridged) does contain mature language and subject matter.
