Audition for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Release Date: 4/1/2002. Expired: 5/2/2002

The coat of many colors is being woven in Dickson. What began as a 15-minute cantata for British school children in 1968 and grew to one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s and Tim Rice’s (Really Useful Group) most colorful full-length Broadway shows - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat - comes to The Renaissance Center stage as the newest musical offering from the Renaissance Community Theatre.

The casting call has been announced by Renaissance Repertory Company Manager and Assistant Creative Arts Director Hal Partlow, who will direct the play. He said he is looking for people of all ages, races, creeds and talents to audition 6:30 p.m. April 29 and May 2 for the play, which runs July 12-14 and July 19-21 in Performance Hall at The Renaissance Center.

He said there are singing roles and non-singing roles as well as dancing and non-dancing roles. There will also be a large adult and childrens’ choir, he said. He’s also looking for volunteers to work behind the scenes, help build sets and other stage crew members.

Basically there’s a place for everyone. In fact, Partlow said, the production is perfect for entire families.

Based on chapters 37-46 in Genesis, the first book of the Bible, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was the first collaboration between Webber and Rice.

The music is an eclectic mix of Latin, country, slow, beautiful ballads and more.

This very hip musical adaptation retells the story of Joseph and his gift for prophetic dreams. Audiences will meet Joseph’s many brothers, check out his fabulous multi-colored coat and watch him rise from slave to fave of the Pharaoh.

Auditions are Monday, April 29, 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theatre, and Thursday, May 2, 6:30 p.m., in the large lecture hall. Prepare a song and come dressed in comfortable clothes. Technical positions are also available.

Rehearsal commitment is Monday and Friday evenings. Wednesday rehearsal will also be held the last week. No rehearsal July 4-7 due to the holiday.
