Workshop to help prepare for Wizard of Oz auditions
Release Date: 4/21/2004. Expired: 5/3/2004
The Renaissance Players will be holding auditions for an upcoming community production of The Wizard of Oz and a workshop at The Renaissance Center will help those planning to audition prepare to hit the stage.
The Wizard of Oz Audition Workshop will be 6-9 p.m. May 3 for anyone sixth grade to adult who is planning to audition for the show.
Participants in this mock audition workshop will work with The Renaissance Center’s professional directors on scenes from the script from this family classic. Instruction will include the dance combination used at the auditions with a professional choreographer; a song under the direction of the show’s musical directors and tips on character development from Hal Partlow and Amy Arrington of the Renaissance Repertory Theatre Company.
“This is an invaluable resource for anyone who is considering auditioning for The Wizard of Oz,” said Pacer Harp, managing director of the Gaslight Dinner Theatre at The Renaissance Center who will be directing the production. “It can help raise your comfort and confidence levels before you audition for the show.”
Participants need to bring sheet music and shoes for the dance combination. The fee for the workshop is $15 and to register call (615)740-5533.
Separate audition dates have been scheduled for all children and the role of Dorothy and the remaining roles.
Auditions for the role of Dorothy and all children will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 8, in the Performance Hall at The Renaissance Center.
