A beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Nightingale” is the story of a Chinese emperor who loved the sound of the nightingale, but was saddened by how plain the bird appeared. His attempts to make the bird more beautiful end in the nightingale’s inability to sing at all.
