Gaslight Dinner Theatre show offers A Christmas Survival Guide Nov. 12-Dec. 18
Release Date: 10/20/2004. Expired: 12/18/2004
The Gaslight Dinner Theatre presents a light-hearted, offbeat musical revue designed to de-stress and refresh you for the holidays with its production of A Christmas Survival Guide at The Renaissance Center in Dickson Nov. 12-Dec. 18.
Quickly becoming as much of a holiday tradition as fruitcake and children’s endless Christmas wish lists, the Gaslight Dinner Theatre offers a break from the shopping, cooking, gift-wrapping, shopping, holiday parties, television specials and shopping that inundate us and become our obsession as early as October.
With its fifth season under way, the Gaslight Dinner Theatre offers an oasis of good food, music and laughs for the holiday season. Sponsored by LexaLite International, A Christmas Survival Guide will be presented Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 12-Dec. 18 (no shows Thanksgiving weekend).
Seating begins at 6:15 p.m. with the buffet open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $27 per person and include dinner, drink, dessert and the show.
Senior Matinees for patrons 55 and older are offered each Friday. Seating begins at 11:45 a.m. with the buffet open at noon and the show starting at 1 p.m. Tickets are $17 per person.
Tickets for A Christmas Survival Guide went on sale Oct. 12.
“Holiday shows in the Gaslight Dinner Theatre have become the most popular of each season,” said Pacer Harp, managing director. “Virtually every one of our public shows sells out well in advance and the performances are extremely popular with businesses and organizations that book private shows for holiday parties.”
Groups of 25 or more can reserve dinner shows on weeknights for office, church, family or organization holiday parties for $31.05 per person.
“Holiday dinner theatre shows have become annual events for many area businesses and organizations, several of whom reserve them as much as a year in advance,” said LeAnn Polk, director of events at The Renaissance Center. “The number of available dates is limited and they run out quickly.”
Written by James Hindman and Ray Roderick with musical arrangements by John Glaudini, A Christmas Survival Guide mixes traditional holiday songs with new compositions by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime), Julie Gold and even Barry Manilow.
Called “anxiety, isolation, desperation... the musical,” A Christmas Survival Guide takes a humorous look at the holidays with topics such as Christmas stress, office parties and a holiday-themed 12-step revelation.
It is a look in the mirror to see how we cope with being single and alone under the mistletoe; being married with demanding kids to satisfy; being broke; being rich; being a department store Santa; and even being Elvis.
From its opening declaration - “Attention shoppers. There are only 174 shopping days left until Christmas. Happy Fourth of July!” - through songs such as All Those Christmas Clichés, The 12 Steps of Christmas and (Everybody’s Waitin’ For) The Man With the Bag, the show makes us laugh at the pressure of the holidays while at the same time reminding us of the true meaning of the season.
