Release Date: 1/15/2001. Expired: 2/2/2001
The Renaissance Center, in partnership with AllianceArt.com, will host a Grand Opening reception for The Renaissance Galleries, on Friday, Feb. 2, 5-8 p.m. The Renaissance Galleries will display over 100 pieces of art from numerous regional and national artists exhibited throughout the center. The exhibits will rotate every two months. The works are for sale and may be purchased through AllianceArt.
“This is a premier event for the art community,” stated Curtis Southerland, gallery curator. “To be able to give this many artists the opportunity to display their work in one place is very unique.”
The award-winning architecture of The Renaissance Center, with bright, open, sky-lit levels and various wings that house music, art and television studios, a performance hall, theatres and bookstore, provides the perfect gallery/museum atmosphere to display an array of artwork. The Galleries are divided into three sections; Gallery North, Gallery East and the Rotunda Gallery, each with two levels.
Beautiful paintings adorn the abundant wall space, delicate sculptures sit serenely upon their pedestals, and the spacious rotunda easily holds enormous, playfully constructed formations. To the art lover, it is a veritable wonderland of creations.
“The Renaissance Center is all about providing the community new and different experiences and opportunities,” continued Southerland. “These exhibits are sure to be appreciated not just by the art community, but by all visitors to our center.”
The exhibiting artists are David Arms, Rosanne Awbrey, Langford Barksdale, Scott Bonner, Marcus Brown, Sue Coomer, Jeff Crowell, Kathryn Dettwiller, Nancy Hall, Paul Harmon, Jann Harrison, Bernie Kipp, Zara Kriegstein, Kris Lattimore, Ric Linder, Edie Maney, Mary McGavock, Marnie McNamara, Monika Merva, Ginna Priest, Carol Proctor, Paul Proctor, Jacquline Sapporitti, Streater Spencer, Eric Strauss, Jill Rosean Tishman, Malenda Trick-Chandler, Samine Vafaie, Teresa VanHatten-Granath and Debbie Wingo.

The private collection of Carlton Wilkinson will be on display through Feb. 28, with a gallery talk scheduled for Feb. 10, 2-4 p.m. Coming to the Visual Arts Gallery March 3 is Mike Freemans Rosedan Collection, a vast collection of original Renaissance Period paintings, tapestries, artifacts and armor.
